Need For Effort
There has been a coordinated campaign to discredit compounded bioidentical hormones, to disregard the molecular difference between various hormone preparations and to discourage women from using and doctors from prescribing bioidentical hormones. Most of this is the result of Wyeth Pharmaceuticals trying to retain market share for its flawed hormone products. Creating confusion in nomenclature and disseminating misinformation on research data has been part of Wyeth's business strategy. As an example, it filed a Citizen's Petition in 2005 to get the FDA to eliminate the availability of compounded hormones. We need committed physicians and patients to counter this misinformation and provide the truth to the media as well as the public about the safety and efficacy of bioidentical hormones.

This anti-compounding campaign has been cited by major insurance companies in recent decisions to eliminate reimbursement for compounded hormone treatments. This reinforces the position of the critics who have created the impression that bioidentical hormones are substandard. The truth is otherwise. Bioidentical hormones of high quality and effectiveness are available from compounding pharmacies AND are commercially available from many different pharmaceutical companies as FDA approved products.
